Touratech Hard Parts for a BMW R1100GS

Right Side Subframe Mount

Here’s the original state of the right bottom footpeg bracket and subframe mount. At the top you can see the end of the bolt that holds the subframe.

First you remove the three medium bolts on the footpeg bracket; then you remove the bolt that holds the subframe. Don’t undo the large bolt in the center, or the two small bolts on the footpeg bracket.

The footpeg bracket bolts removed. Save the washers on the three bolts.
Then unscrew and remove the subframe mounting bolt.

Insert a spacer in the subframe end. My R1100GS is a ’98; I used the 10mm spacers. Earlier models use the 25mm spacers. Also clip the wire tie. It holds the cable that goes to the brake light switch.

If your GS has ABS, the footpeg bracket won’t move much. Don’t move it much or you’ll kink a hydraulic line.

If your GS does not have ABS, then there will be a rubber hose here instead. Treat it gently.

Carefully fit the Hard Part behind the hydraulic brake lines. Slip it in from the back going forward.
It will take some jiggery and pokery to get the bolts to fit. The transmission case is aluminum and the steel bolts will only screw in properly if everything is lined up just so. If you feel much resistance or any grinding to screwing down the bolt, stop immediately! If you cross-thread the bolt holes, that’s a Bad Thing. When everything is right, the bolts should go in smoothly, though with some resistance.
