In this section I discuss some basics of hockey and tell some stories about the game. Every practice or game starts with a warmup, and I have learned what the best warmup is for me. If you think you have what it takes to be a goalie, then try some pads on for size. Once you’re in front of the net, you should practice moving around on the ice. First-year hockey players all make the same basic mistakes, so I talk about the basics of hockey from a goalie’s point of view. Every skater can benefit from slide-board training.

I’ve been playing ice hockey since about April, 1996, and I’ve kept track of my progress and activities. I remember learning a lesson about why I need to have a strong ego ... and about why a goalie needs to keep his temper in check. I’ve collected a few books on goaltending over the years.
