Hockey pants are made of thick nylon or similar materials. They contain padding all around to protect the player from sticks, skates, pucks, and the ice. Goalie pants have bigger and thicker pads and some additional features for this specialized position.

The Heaton Pro 90Z goalie pants have integral kneepads for when the player is kneeling, hard plastic pads all around to the back, and thick pads on the inside of the thighs to help prevent the puck from going through the “five hole.”

Sizing

Goalie pants manufactured in the US or Canada use the Small-Medium-Large system; those made in Europe use the European size numbers. Get pants the same as your normal waist size or larger. The best way is to try them on in the store. Be sure to move around in your goalie stance. People won’t think you look silly ... they’ll think you’re testing how well the pants will fit you as you move about in your goalie stance.

If you like to wear your chest pads inside your pants, be sure to wear them as you try on the pants. And wear your favorite jock—that thing is bulky!
