What Equipment does a Goalie Need? When I play hockey, I wear or carry about forty pounds of specialized equipment. That may sound like a lot of equipment, and it is when I'm carrying all this stuff in a bag. (Bags, towels, extra stick, and such stuff bring the total weight to over fifty pounds.) But when it's all strapped on it becomes like part of my body and I don't notice it nearly as much. Every piece has its purpose and has to be of good quality and in working condition for every game. What Equipment Should I Get?The equipment choices which I present in this web site don't mean that you should run out and get exactly this same set of stuff. I picked these pieces because out of the choices available to me at the time, they fit me the best. If I were to start over with new equipment, I might make different choices. You may find that you try on some piece of gear I like, and just hate it. In that case, buy what fits you best. StorageI keep my gear on a wooden rack that I built. That keeps it dry, organized, and displayed so I can show it off to guests. Gearing UpThe rest of these pages are organized in the order I put on my gear.
This is the order I worked out in the first few weeks I was playing, and
it's the routine I follow. It makes sense for me for two types of reasons.
First, you have to put your jock on before you put your pants on. Second,
I can reach my leg pads easier if I don't have my chest & arm pads
on yet. |
