Fursuit Project In Progress: Woofy

Fur Design

I photographed myself in various woofy positions, then drew on the images to get a feel for what colors of fur I want where. This is the first iteration...

Woofy Poses

Here it is after the first actual day of work.

I sewed together sweat pants and a sweater so they'd be the right length for me. Then I drew lines on it with felt marker representing the edges of areas of fur color I wanted. I used the marked-up sweat-suit as a pattern for the pieces of fur I needed. This is how it looks from the back. The tail, I think, is quite successful, even though it's scruffy because the nap on the fur is backwards! I'm not entirely sure about the color of the back fur. I used a weightlifter's back-support belt for the Firm Attachment. The tail contains a section of washing-machine water hose; that in turn contains some 3-conductor romex house wiring folded in half and anchored to the weight belt. This should be proof against boys who tug on fursuit tails.

Next, the head. Paws are probably a good idea, but I can skip the feet for now, for I'll be wearing skates. The plan is to wear a pair of skater's padded shorts and knee pads under the suit. I want to go ice skating!

Someone on a BBS discovered this page and made this funny picture:

FurCon 2007!

My friend John took a bunch of videos of the goings-on at FurCon 2007. As this was my and Sprocket's first outing in fursuit, he took a lot of pictures of us.

My neck is kind of flabby and the nose still needs some work, but I think the costume works.

I totally cheated on the feet.

The photos don't do justice to the way my tail swishes back and forth as I run.

He actually bonked me pretty hard on my head with that staff! It's a good thing that the head is based on a hockey helmet.
